Ты прав, мы говорим как "сядь на диване (где) и посмотри телевизор", если, например, гость только что пришёл и ещё стоит в доме. Если челевек стоит, мы понимаем, что это значит сядь на диван (движение нужно).

Maybe I put it another way in English:
你先坐在沙发上看电视等一会儿
Please take a seat in the sofa (где, state) and wait for a while.
If the guest is standing, then it is understood that movement is needed towards the sofa. In this way it is the same as =坐到沙发上去. But 在 itself does not indicate movement. If you see my English sentence, you see the English can be in some way similar to Chinese, too.
But in Russian, you say "Please sit onto (куда, movement) the sofa and wait for a while." if this is about movement.

But actually another situation for 你先坐在沙发上看电视等一会儿 is also possible. That is the guest is already sitting.
For example, the guest just came inside the house for a few seconds and sat down on the sofa by himself. You can also say "你先坐在沙发上看电视等一会儿 Please sit on the sofa and wait for a while." Here it does not involve movement. You ask him to remain "in the state of sitting". Then in Russian it may be сядь на диване, if I am correct.

So
1) if the guest is standing, 你先坐在沙发上看电视等一会儿 is
сядь на диван ...
2) if the guest is already sitting, 你先坐在沙发上看电视等一会儿 is
сядь на диване ...
