1) 荻草与芦苇。
诗经．秦风．蒹葭：「蒹葭苍苍，白露为霜。」
元．郑光祖．倩女离魂．第二折：「近蓼洼，望平花，有折蒲衰柳老蒹葭。」
2) 比喻卑微鄙陋。
喻世明言．卷二十七．金玉奴棒打薄情郎：「彼出身寒门，得公收拔，如蒹葭倚玉树，何幸如之，岂以入赘为嫌乎？」
3) 诗经秦风的篇名。共三章。根据诗序：「蒹葭，刺襄公也。」或以为有所爱慕而不得近之之诗，似是情歌，或访贤之作。首章二句为：「蒹葭苍苍，白露为霜。」
1) 蒹和葭都是价值低贱的水草，因喻微贱。亦常用作谦词。
2) 《诗‧秦风‧蒹葭》：“蒹葭苍苍，白露为霜。所谓伊人，在水一方。”本指在水边怀念故人，后以“蒹葭”泛指思念异地友人。
